I was never the entrepreneur type.

I was too scared to venture out on my own, even if I wanted to. I like the stability that comes from a steady paycheck too much!

But then 2009 happened.

After moving to a new city to help a friend, I got laid off from my new job - because the company ran out of money!

We had just bought our first house and had our first baby, and now we had no income. Great - so much for that "stable" paycheck.

And trying to find decent-paying work during a global recession proved to be difficult.

So I went back to freelance work, trying to get as much work as I could but I brought in so little money that I actually qualified for government assistance in the form of food stamps.

This was the lowest point in my life.

Here I was, blessed to be healthy, able, and college-educated. But I didn't make enough money to support my family and I needed "handouts" from my government.

It was in that season of defeat that I began to work my online business.

Something that I thought would just be a little side project that might bring me some more freelance work turned into something else entirely!

After 18 long months of creating content and trying to figure out this online business thing, I started to see momentum.

Am I special? Did I figure out some magic formula?

Nope.

All I've done for the past decade is serve people.

And truthfully that's all business comes down to.

Honestly – the thing I’m most proud of regarding my business is that it doesn’t take over my life – rather it serves it!

Because of my business, I am able to spend time with my family, get regular sleep, and focus on being as generous as I can with the blessings I’ve been given.
